Kevin Freiheit: Best NHL captains

very interesting and telling stat...FIRST

My first choice on my list is Toews. My last would be Ovechkin.

Ovechkin is a hell of a player, and i would take him on the Sabres in a heartbeat. One of the best pure goal scorers the game has seen. But I do not believe he is a great captain.

Yeah, great stat. It's definitely showing. I think the next Captain isn't on this team yet. Maybe Sam Reinhart or Sam Bennett in this year's draft can fill that role eventually.

What does offensive production have anything to do with who is the team captain? Team captain is supposed to be a guy that is a leader for the rest of the players, that stands up for his teammates.

That was only an e3 rumor. I heard it was with his left pinky, and that's an e4.

Right, but when the team captain sucks at his job, it's tough for him to get the rest of the team to elevate their play to his "standards". Not saying Ott sucks, but I will take the guy that preforms over someone who is well liked any day

MFE doesn't need a zamboni. He stares at the ice and it starts crying. He then looks away in disgust and the tears freeze immediately in shame.

MFE actually dictates all of the trades in the NHL. He possess Burt and then as host, he selects the tennis balls he wishes to be traded.

Joe Thornton

Callahan or Toews would be my choice. I hate the Rangers but Callahan is a real leader and skilled to boot. Toews is a great player who does all that is required of a leader.

IMO a perfect captain is a guy that can get his team mates to play at his level, or to rise to the occasion. A guy like Ott IMO is better wearing the A instead of the C.
Ott is at his best when he is being a pest or just a flat out douche on the ice, when he has the C he tends to tone it down.

he said hes aware its not the only or most important factor

some leaders lead by example, offensive production has a place, not all the time, and not most importantly, but it has a place

Doan's my favorite capper on that list. Call me old fashioned but I like vets as captains.

I said this worried me when he got it but eveyone (most people) oh this is great , when in reality caused him to play different.
